Thomas LeeCo-Founder and Head of Research
Thomas has over 20 years of experience in macro markets and equity research. Prior to co-founding the independent strategy research boutique, Fundstrat Global Advisors, he served as Chief Equity Strategist of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. from 2007 through 2014. And prior to that, was both a highly regarded telecommunications equity research analyst and also small -cap equity/ bankruptcy/reorg strategist (2004-2010).
His clients view his work as both contrarian and highly differentiated, as his approach incorporates an extensive study of historical fundamentals, reliance on credit and cross market leading indicators, as well as market-based views driven by positioning and sentiment.
In his career focusing on technology and wireless companies, investors viewed his approach as deeply fundamental and contrarian. He identified many major shifts in that sector, premised on the notion that outcomes were more dependent on capital expediency, not investor perception.
Some past examples of this approach include his advocacy of reorg investing during the early 2000s. Becoming secularly bullish on equities in 2009. Recommending a recovery in housing in 2012, and arguing that by 2016, the reset of credit scores would seriously boost demand—which indeed was the case.
Recently, he has brought this focus onto Crypto-currencies and blockchain, as the innovation of this area looks like a rejuvenation of the industrial/technological revolution.
He has also received numerous award and recognition during his career. He has been top ranked by Institutional Investor (II) and from 1998 to 2013, was top-ranked 1, 2 or 3 every single year.
He was at J.P.Morgan from 1999 to 2014. He has previously served as Managing Director at Salomon Smith Barney from 1996-1999. And prior to that was at Kidder, Peabody and Oppenheimer.
He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) and the Economic Club of NY.
He received his BSE from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania with concentrations in Finance and Accounting.
